Originally used as an RAF bombing range control tower, this unusual property offers a wonderful insight into history along with delightful but quirky, holiday accommodation. The tower itself comprises of 5 storeys. On the ground floor is a hallway, small wc and utility room. The first and second floors consist of identical en suite bedrooms. The third floor also has an en suite bedroom as well as a fully equipped kitchen. Finally, the top floor is a glass room which when in use by the RAF was the observation room but has now been converted into a lounge/dining room furnished with a dining table and 6 chairs, 2 sofas, bean bags and smart tv/dvd player.
These four delightful properties are nestled in the beautiful, Lincolnshire countryside and offer unique accommodation, steeped in history. Enjoy amazing views across the marsh to The Wash and onto the North Norfolk Coastline and Hunstanton from this former observation tower at RAF Wainfleet.
Along with three former, above ground bunkers, there is accommodation to suit individuals as well as a large group. The Tower has double bedrooms on three floors with the living room located on the fourth floor, boasting stunning 360° views. Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire offer comfortable, single-storey accommodation, ideal for a family holiday or a break away for friends.
Unusual history
The bombing range, which The Tower was built to observe, first came in to use in the 1890s as an army artillery range and becoming a bombing range in 1938, which is where The Dambusters practised during WWII. You can still see the ships that were used as targets until 2009.
Surroundings
The land and marshes around are abundant with wildlife and great for dog friendly walks. It is possible to walk along the old sea banks to Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve with its visitors centre. Inland, Friskney offers a village shop as well as the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park which is home to ten tigers amongst other wild animals.
There is a pub serving good food and drink at the end of the lane and the visitors centre at Batemans Brewery is just 3 miles and away always worth a visit. The traditional seaside resort of Skegness is 8 miles away and Boston, with the famous St Botolph’s Church, which boasts an extraordinarily tall tower, known as the Boston Stump being 14 miles away. Beach 8 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
