Property description

This single-storey unique place to stay has been restored to offer a great family base to explore the picturesque county of Lincolnshire. Lancaster is just one of four unique places to stay, this one converted from its original use as a large wet room/laundry. This is where the RAF bomb disposal personnel would get washed and cleaned up after a session clearing unexploded ordinance from the marsh. This bunker is a one bedroom, with kitchen, lounge/diner, and large bathroom with separate luxury bath and shower cubicle. It also has a cute private garden with patio furniture, hot tub, bbq and fire pit to enjoy the peaceful outdoors.

Location

These four delightful properties are nestled in the beautiful, Lincolnshire countryside and offer unique accommodation, steeped in history. Enjoy amazing views across the marsh to The Wash and onto the North Norfolk Coastline and Hunstanton from this former observation tower at RAF Wainfleet.

Along with three former, above ground bunkers, there is accommodation to suit individuals as well as a large group. The Tower has double bedrooms on three floors with the living room located on the fourth floor, boasting stunning 360° views. Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire offer comfortable, single-storey accommodation, ideal for a family holiday or a break away for friends.

An unusual history

The bombing range, which The Tower was built to observe, first came in to use in the 1890s as an army artillery range and becoming a bombing range in 1938, which is where The Dambusters practised during WWII. You can still see the ships that were used as targets until 2009.

The land and marshes around are abundant with wildlife and great for dog friendly walks. It is possible to walk along the old sea banks to Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve with its visitors centre. Inland, Friskney offers a village shop as well as the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park which is home to ten tigers amongst other wild animals. There is a pub serving good food and drink at the end of the lane and the visitors centre at Batemans Brewery is just 3 miles away and always worth a visit.

The traditional seaside resort of Skegness is 8 miles away and Boston, with the famous St Botolph’s Church, which boasts an extraordinarily tall tower, known as the Boston Stump being 14 miles away. Beach 8 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 22 guests.
